Rukki Sanda a.k.a Rukayat Akinsanya Sanda may not yet be ranked among Nollywood's A-list, but the young actress who landed her first movie role five years ago, says she is determined to leave a lasting impression in the Nigerian movie scene.
To prove that she meant business, the 26-year old actress dumped her Banking and Finance degree to pursue her love for acting and it seems to have paid off.
Sanda claims to have clinched her first role at the first audition she ever attended in 2004. She recalls: "It was on the movie ‘Angel and the Beast'. I had walked into the audition hall and immediately the producer Sonny McDon spotted me, he let me audition and then cast me for a role".
Although she was given the lead role she was
afraid to act it due to the number of lines,
so she settled for the supporting role. Over
the years, she seems to have outgrown stage
fright and has gone ahead to feature in
movies like ‘Strength of Love', ‘Legal War',
‘Campus Love', ‘My Precious Son', ‘Weeping
Tiger' as well as in the soap operas,
‘Heaven's Gate' and ‘Treasures'.
The Lagos State University graduate is also
gradually establishing her presence as a
film producer and screenwriter.
‘Lethal Woman' was produced in 2008. She says "With ‘Lethal Woman', I just wanted to do what I felt was right. Although a lot of people may not agree with me or like the movie, I feel it was good. I starred in the movie alongside Nonso Diobi, Ngozi Ezeonu and many others."

Riding on the commercial success of ‘Lethal
Woman', the leggy actress also wrote and
produced yet another blockbuster movie (as
she chooses to describe it), ‘Obscure
Motive'.
She says of the movie: "It is based on a true life story of a family based in Nigeria. I overheard them discussing about the story and it sounded interesting. I decided to add a little fiction and adapt the story for screenplay and it worked." She adds, "It is a story about falling in and out of love. It goes to show the desperate things people do to get someone to love them or get a lost loved one back. I think Obscure Motive is the most appropriate title and it featured Nonso Diobi, Bimbo Akintola and I. I have already premiered the movie in America and hope to do same in Ghana by April 6, 2009."
Reacting to the reason why her movies are
premiered first abroad before Nigeria, she
says, "It's the right procedure; because if
you release it in Nigeria first, over the
next 48 hours there are a lot of people who
are actually waiting to steal your work -
People who get hold of your film and then
sell it even before it is released into the
market. I will definitely premier ‘Obscure
Motive' in Nigeria before it is released."
Sanda says she owes her acting and
production skills to learning from talented
producers and directors. "I don't actually
have any formal training but learned on the
job by listening and watching professionals
at work." Sanda has also begun shooting her
latest film ‘In Her Shoes'.
Despite having been in a number of movies,
she is driven by a motive: "It is basically
about preaching about the power of
positivity which can take you anywhere and
the desire to make a mark in the very
vibrant Nigerian movie industry!" she says.
