Entertainment stars: from rags to riches
These are ten of Nollywood stars from humble beginnings who rose to the tops
by providence and hardwork, like the golden fish, they have no hiding place.
Today, they are stars, living glamorous lives which seems to have
invalidated their past riddled with inadequacies.
Julius Agwu: Though very rich today, that has not invalidated his past,
symbolized by a thorny pathway. He actually started his comic business in
school , but when he came to Lagos it was difficult for him that he had to
do it even inside molue buses.
Then without a roof over his head, he was living the life of a nomad until
his breakthrough came. Today, he is a millionaire and dines with society top
brass.
Daddy Shockey: On several occasions this ghetto soldier had mentioned it
publicly that he would have died a robber, if not for music.
From living in the streets, he took a shot at boxing as a career before
delving into music for his breakthrough. All these are past today as Daddy
Shockey is now a millionaire and cruises in choice cars including a jeep.
Genevieve Nnaji: She is a millionaire actress and cruises in a jeep, but the
Mbaise Imo State-born actress started life as a low time model with popular
actor, Alex Osifor-Omaigbo, but fortune sailed on her and she has been
rising since then.
Bob Manuel Odogwu: Although he got into checkmate while studying at the
University of Port Harcourt, starting off in Lagos was not easy for the
Anambra born actor.
After sleeping on the floor because of lack of accommodation, Bob has toiled
to the top to become one of the top earners in Nollywood and travels
extensively with his family.
Segun Arinze: The ‘Black Arrow’ has also had his fair share of hard times
after school, he started off a musical career that refused to flourish, then
he was like a studio rat working on ‘backup’ projects. Things have changed
today. He earns well and lives glamorously.
Ramsey Noah; He is having it smoothly now, but it has not always been like
that. He started off spending time at a barber’s shop somewhere in Iju,
Lagos State, trying his hands on the trade.
Somehow, he landed his role in ‘fortunes’ and has changed his fortunes too.
Saint Obi: Initially he wanted to be a basketballer, it did not work, them
he tried his hands at being a postmaster, that also failed. Mbaitoli , Imo
State, St Obi eventually ventured into acting and collected his first fee,
one hundred naira for appearing in ‘Behind the Cloud’
His first major movie role availed him twenty-five thousand naira, his
artistes fee has been increasing since.
Chico Ejiro: Although, he is the younger brother of Zeb Ejiro, the popular
movie sheik Life for Chico was not simple at the beginning from a lowly boy
as a camera boy during the era of ‘Ripples,’ Chico has by a dint of hard
work and mother luck become one of the most dependable directors in the
country.
At the moment, he is a millionaire, travels the world and drives in choice
automobiles.
Teco Benson: He started off with hardship but destiny has got him some where
good. Teco who now owns a studio and other business interests is one of the
highest paid directors in the Nigerian show biz. While climbing the ladder
of success, the Anambra State artiste passed through a lot of hard times.
Victor Osuagwu: Comedian Victor Osuagwu is also one of show personalities,
who had it rough tying to rise to stardom. At a point, it seemed nobody
wanted to recon with him. With his wife and kids, the University of Port
Harcourt trained artiste toiled hard until his breakthrough.
